Wedding Style: What We Wore

One of my cousins got married on Friday, giving us all an occasion to dress in our best.  My favorite part of my cousin's gown was this lovely beaded shoulder detail.  It added just the right amount of elegance to her dress and was the perfect way for her to wear sleeves in this warm weather.  After the bride of course, my nephew gets some major fashion points.  I'm obsessed with his gingham shirt and suede cognac loafers.  Seven years old and this kid is already a total prepster, wearing Ralph Lauren from head to toe.

Gingham Shirt and Cognac Suede Loafers (Ralph Lauren)
Pants (Gap Kids) // Tablet (definitely not his)

I also got some pointers just from observing how my grandmother put together her outfit.  She shows that black is totally doable for spring/summer weddings if you accessorize appropriately.  Granny lightened up her black sheath dress with a stylish white blazer and a vintage striped cross body bag.  She kept her accessories simple with a classic gold bangle and strappy black sandals.  And don't even get me started with my niece and her top knot, tangerine chiffon dress and pewter t-strap sandals.  She's in grade school and yet I would wear her entire outfit.

With my Mom's neutral colored embroidered dress, the details are truly in the fabric; however, she livened up this neutral piece with beautiful royal blue accessories, like these statement earrings with matching shoes.   And finally, what I wore:

Sweater (Merona from Target)
Watercolor Dress (H+M)
Belt (J. Crew, almost exact)
Gladiator Sandals (B.o.c.)
Polka Dot Pouch (Ann Taylor Loft)

Some of the best pieces are the ones with a story.  I found this really unique straw bag two years ago while on vacation in Mexico.  I won't pretend it's this super exclusive artisanal piece---I got it from a tourist shop, but I've never seen anything like it in the states; there's definitely some artistry to it.  It's a total coincidence that it matches this tan/yellow polka dot pouch that I've had for a few years.

    1. thanks Ashley! The rest of the dress was a simple mermaid style with no beading or details, so the shoulder piece added just the right amount of shine.
