Like It's Golden

You know what they say about learning how to ride a bike?  You never forget.  Well this weekend I found that to definitely be true.  One bus, one train, one ferry later.  For the first time in nearly 15 years I hit the road again on a bike.  I was a little wobbly at first, but after a while it was as if I never stopped riding.  The trees.  The breeze.  The sky.  The day.  "Look at God," my grandmother would say.  There was something really magical about being outside riding along the waterside on a road to nowhere in particular.  Peace.  Joy.  Freedom.  I didn't know it, but nature would agree the day as it was was meant to be.

Mustard Boyfriend Sweater (the Loft)

When you spend all week inside a big building in an office with no windows, there's something so freeing about being outside in nature.  I hope you all have a great week, and stay tuned for more pics and a post on where I took these shots!

This week I've been getting things together in preparation for a little move and starting school in just a few weeks.  I haven't been keeping up with my favorite bloggers (my Bloglovin' feed runneth over) or working on new posts myself, but I realize that as much as I love this blogging world I have to attend to everyday life.  Luckily I have a fun weekend ahead of me and will most definitely be enjoying the bit of summer I have left.  One cool thing that happened this week is that one of my Instagram photos was featured on the Loft's website!  How exciting right!?  I randomly took this photo yesterday during the ride to work with this necklace which has quickly become a favorite.  Check out my photo as well as those from the other IGers showing off their #LoveLoft.  And if you don't already follow me on Instagram you can do that too!  You'll find my daily encounters, pretty things, and bits of my life.  It's a great way to catch a glimpse of what I'm up to when things get a little crazy and I don't have as much time for posts.

Thanks for reading and following along!  I hope you all have a great weekend, and I'll be back next week with some good stuff!

Plants, Peaches, and Pleasant Curves

Here's some highlights from my 3 day weekend:

1 // Scouted a few new potentials for my reading list and ordered a few more.
2 // Picked up a lovely floral rug to add a little color to my neutral pad.
3 // Tending to my plant babies.  These will survive--unlike my last batch.
4 // Found the ultimate living room lamps at Target thanks to my mom's great eye.  I was very resistant to the angled base at first, but looking back it fits perfectly.  Just goes to show how important it is to keep an open mind and look at how things fit together overall, instead of just focusing on the details.
5 // Last day teaching Pre-K Sunday school.  I'm gonna miss my little nuggets!
6 // Went to Whole Foods for $1 soaps.  Left with two coconut soaps for my bird soap dish, donut peaches (the best thing ever! also known as UFO peaches) and strawberries.  Whole Foods Market is like Target, you can't go for just one thing and leave with just one thing.  Smelled the most amazing Citrus Salt Scrub; didn't leave with it at $14.99 a pound, but it's one of the best things I've ever smelled.  I pray it's something that goes on sale!?
7 // A promising fortune from the universe (fortune cookie): "May life throw you a pleasant curve."

Have a great week everyone!  I hope it throws you one too!

What I Wore: Virginia

Here's a little bit of what I wore during my vacation a few weeks ago:

Black Tank and Mossimo Open Cardigan (Target)
Floral Print Skirt, old (H+M)
Nylon Crossbody Pouchette (Dooney and Bourke)
Gladiator Sandals, Circus by Sam Edelman (Zappos)

Patterned Shift Dress (Old Navy)
Mossimo Open Cardigan (Target)
Braided Belt (H+M)
Rose Gold Watch (New York and Company)
Pearl Open Bangle (J.Crew)

Floral Pleated Skirt (New York and Company)
Worn with Essential Buttoned Shirt (The Limited)
Sunburst Necklace (Factory J.Crew)

Flower Eyelet Cotton Dress (Ann Taylor Loft)
Sunburst Necklace (Factory J.Crew)

Crossbody Bag (Coach)

Statement Bracelets (J.Crew)

Floral Scarf (Factory J.Crew)

P.S. Wear pants/shorts to the airport, the tightest you have.  Don't try to be comfortable and wear your 4 in 1 Maxi Dress to the airport.  Security will think you're hiding prohibited items like a nest of rare birds, gallons of liquid, illegal immigrants, etc.  Let's just say things got real personal, and blue nitrile gloves should have been part of my OOTD!

What are your go to vacation looks?

Two: Turtle, Dove

Here are a couple of things I picked up at Serendip boutique last weekend, during my vacation in Norfolk, Virginia.  They had tons of beautiful pieces for decorating a home.  There were also adorable odds and ends sprinkled throughout the shop, great for gifting.  I decided to treat myself to this lovely turtle ring dish and a soap dish for my new bathroom.

The attention to detail at Serendip extends well beyond the artwork and home furnishings that they offer.  The associate was also kind enough to wrap my ceramic pieces in this lovely wrapping paper.  Again, I definitely recommend checking out this sweet spot if you're in the Downtown Norfolk, VA area; if you can't, at least pay a visit to their online store here.

Stumbling upon Serendip was one of my favorite parts of my trip to Virginia.  I initially ran into this boutique to see if they had a bathroom, but serendipity would have it that I found much more than that.  Serendip has such a great collection of home furnishings, art, and novelty items.  I love the mix of neutral, elegantly shaped decor with pops of color, interesting prints and textures, the meeting of the new with the old.  This boutique is full of original work from independent artists and antiques, making it a great place for gifts and conversation pieces.  Anthropologie fans would definitely approve.  Located in the historic Freemason district of Downtown Norfolk, I definitely recommend checking out this shop if you're in the area.

Outfit Details:
Essential Shirt (The Limited) - Polka Dot Shorts (Target)
Bracelet (J.Crew) - Crossbody Bag (Coach)
Gladiator Sandals, Circus by Same Edelman (Zappos)

Life's a Beach

I haven't been to the beach since 2011, so I was definitely looking forward to going to Virginia Beach for the first time last weekend.  When I got there I found an overcrowded beach with sand as hot as blazing coals and no seashells (to my dismay), yet there's something so peaceful about the sea that made it all worth it.  Even though I didn't venture out into the deep, there's something relaxing about just watching the vastness of the ocean, the ebb and flow of the tide, the crashing of the cool saltwater waves across your feet.  If not for the heat, I could have stayed there longer.  It was also a great, new experience to share with a few of the ones I love most.

Drapey Tee in Cheri (J.Crew)
3" Chino Short (J.Crew)
Pearl Open Bangle (J.Crew)
Rose Gold Watch (New York and Company)
Gladiator Sandals, Circus by Sam Edelman (Zappos)
Market Tote (J.Crew)

The first three J.Crew pieces were on crazy good sale a few days before -- already reduced +50% off +15% off student discount.  I'm talking, I got the shorts for $10 bucks good!

Trying to bring "InspirationEle" to the beach.  The first time it got washed away.  The second time, within seconds of me writing it a toddler rolled a truck right through it.

It was short but sweet while it lasted.  Hopefully I'll have another trip coming up before the summer's over!
